1905 PICKARD CHINA HAND PAINTED CREAMER & SUGAR, SIGNED CHALLINOR, ART NOUVEAU

This sale is for a spectacular cream and sugar set made by Pickard China. It features the signature of E. Challinor, for Edward Challinor, who is generally considered the finest decorator in Pickard's stable of fine china artists. Pickard is a Chicago based china decorating company and it produced many fine works in the 20th Century, typically using china blanks from Europe. This cream and sugar set, for instance, carries an old Rosenthal China mark. In addition to the Pickard mark, the pieces also carry a mark indicating this particular decoration received a design patent in 1905.  The design features berries, flowers and leaves in an Art Nouveau style. Many of the colors are pastel. The pieces also have heavy gold trim. The creamer stands a bit more than 3 1/2 inches high and is 6 inches from spout tip to handle end. The sugar bowl is just over 6 1/2 inches from handle end to end and is about 4 1/2 inches high with the lid. The pieces have no chips or cracks. There is no real wear to the gold trim, but the pieces do have some minor marks.
