Description
Dutch Art Nouveau Gouda inkwell with lid in a semi-matte glaze by Plateelbakkerj Zuid-Holland (PZH), Netherlands - 1921. The lid has openings for a quill or quills. It is dark tocamouflage ink spills.
A boldly designed inkwell with a removable lid marked Plauzid with
Zomer
decoration. Its brightly colored, semi-matte glaze, Gouda décor is abstract and free flowing.
The word Plauzid was an abbreviated form for Plateelbakkerj Zuid-Holland. PZH was founded by 1898 in the town of Gouda in South Holland.
This is a slip-cast production in small series, and hand painted. This signed Gouda pottery has a PZH (Plateelbakkerj Zuid-Holland) date mark resembling a triangle shape for the year 1921 (painted). An impressed mark on its bottom side was reportedly used to inform the decorator which pattern to paint or glaze to apply.

Condition:
This antque Gouda inkwell and lid is in very good overall condition. Its glaze is stable with the expected and desirable firing idiosyncrasies.
