Masterful carving from one piece of wood. No breaks or chips, including to the hand.
Shown in the Sotheby's photo is another similar olivewood Torah pointer that sold for ,100 fifteen years ago. The pointer I am offering is superior to that pointer for these reasons: 1)My pointer is carved from one piece of wood. That pointer is carved until where the hand is, which is understandable as carving a nicely detailed hand is difficult, you have to be very skilled. So for the Sotheby's pointer, a roughly carved hand made of mother of pearl was placed to the pointer, and even part of that hand is damaged. 2)My pointer has stunning, extremely high quality hand-inked Hebrew of "Jerusalem", on it. The Sotheby's pointer has no Hebrew, it is completely blank.
Last photo from a museum in Israel shows a yad from Morocco with the same type of red rope tied at the end. I don't know what this means exactly, maybe my olivewood yad was used in a Sephardic congregation after it was made?
