    Description

Gouda high-glaze floral vase by Plateelbakkerj Zuid-Holland (PZH), Netherland - 1898.
High-glazed pieces especially from 1898-1905, are rare.
A beautifully proportioned and designed open ceramic container used as an ornament from PZH’s first year of production (scarce and important). Porcelain décor has delicate pastel cross hatched florals on an off-white ground. This vase resembles Plateelfabriek Rozenburg’s (est. 1883) turn of the century pottery, which is not surprising since its two primary designers had come from Rozenburg.
Its underside is marked PZH with the
    Dena
decoration and a date mark in the manner of the letter A for the year 1889 (painted). It is noted that PZH or Plauzid are abbreviations for Plateelbakkerj Zuid-Holland.
PZH was founded by 1898 in the town of Gouda in South Holland (see The World of Gouda Pottery, Font & Center Press.
