    Description

This is a very nice piece of advertising memorabilia and at the same time served a purpose.  It is a vintage button hook.  These were widely known and used from the 1880's to 1930's but there is reference to their use even in the 1600's.  They were made of various materials in numerous shapes and sizes and were a very useful tool.  Since this one has the name Luxana Shoe on it, it's use probably was for shoes that had buttons on them.
The R. H. White Company of Boston was a well know department store in the 19th and 20th Centuries.  The Company's flagship store was in Boston and was open from 1876 to 1957.  The company existed from 1853 to 1980.  From 1853 to 1876 it was in one location but in 1876 it moved to a more prestigious six-floor building in the downtown shopping area.  The company was bought several times and the name changed before finally closing.
The button hook is all metal and is a total of 5-3/16" long   The handle is 3/8" wide and the hook is almost the same approx. width.  It weights .6 oz.  All the lettering is raised on both names.  There is no rust but there is a little wear.  After all, it is quite old.
