Untitled DocumentEdwardian Mens Motoring Motorcycle Driving Black Leather Gaiters Puttee Leggings Spats
This pair of antique Edwardian era men's motoring motorcycle driving black leather gaiters puttee leggings spats date from 1915. They are made of black horsehide leather with khaki green woven trim edging along the top. These men's motoring motorcycle, horseless carriage car driving leather gaiters spats have a long puttee leggings style with a steel busk insert along the side inner leg for protection with a metal lever turn clasp closure, an embossed "B.E. Mfg. Co. New York" stamped metal button snap closure and adjustable buckle leather strap under the foot arch. The gaiters measure 14 1/2 inches long, 8 inches wide across the top, 9 inch long foot and have a size 10 paper label inside. These gaiters would have been worn to protect the shin leg and ones clothing from the motor, heat, dust, mud when traveling, riding a motorcycle and or driving in a motor car. They are in fair as-is condition with some wear to the leather, frayed casing holding the metal boning inside, white spots, green erosion on the metal snaps and a taped patch inside the bottom (see close-ups). This is truly a rare and wonderful piece of early motoring antique gaiter spats!
